Since its commercial introduction in 1947, the magnetron has been the dominant microwavegeneration technology for industrial & domestic heating applications. Problems with themagnetron result in high periodic costs, product variability and disruption for industrial users.Due to recent developments in communications technology, high power transistors are nowbecoming readily available with performance and at prices that make them commerciallyviable for microwave heating applicatons. Industrial Microwave Systems (IMS), anestablished UK manufacturer that exports internationally, proposes a 24 month project todevelop two novel packaging solutions to exploit solid state microwave transistors, benefitinga broad range of industrial process heating applications.
