This project aims to address the fundamental challenges of developing quantum communication technology in space by performing space qualification of quantum technologies and optimising quantum-key distribution protocols for space applications. The project expects to generate new knowledge in the area of long-distance quantum key distribution based on continuous variables providing Australia with secure information networks. Expected outcomes of the project include licensing of key patents in building a quantum toolkit for space applications, establishment of collaboration across research institutes and disciplines, defence organisations and industry partners.
