Changing administrative territory

本项目分析中国如何改变地方行政区划--建立和扩大城市并消除其他城市--以发展区域经济、建立权力基础和治理社会。该项目将利用有关行政区划变化的系统数据，分析中国如何战略性地改变国家以下各级领土，以实现政治、经济和社会目标，使国家的领土空间与经济和公民身份保持一致。在四个城市的研究结果预计将提供战略信息，以建立城市间的伙伴关系，以及对经济发展和国家安全的见解。

This project analyses how China changes subnational administrative territory – establishing and enlarging cities and eliminating others – to develop regional economies, establish power bases, and govern society. Using systematic data on changes to administrative divisions, this project will analyse how China strategically changes subnational territory to achieve political, economic and social goals – aligning the territorial space of the state with economy and citizenship. Results from research in four cities are expected to provide strategic information for establishing city-to-city partnerships as well as insights for economic development and national security.
