ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK) is a partnership transforming the way researchers access the UK’s wealth of public sector data, to enable better informed policy decisions that improve people’s lives.By linking together data held by different parts of government, and by facilitating safe and secure access for accredited researchers to these newly joined-up data sets, ADR UK is creating a sustainable body of knowledge about how our society and economy function – tailored to give decision makers the answers they need to solve important policy questions.ADR UK is made up of three national partnerships (ADR Scotland, ADR Wales, and ADR NI) and the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which ensures data provided by UK government bodies is accessed by researchers in a safe and secure form with minimal risk to data holders or the public.The partnership is coordinated by a UK-wide Strategic Hub, which also promotes the benefits of administrative data research to the public and the wider research community, engages with UK government to secure access to data, and manages a dedicated research budget.ADR UK is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), part of UK Research and Innovation.To find out more, visit adruk.org or follow @ADR_UK on Twitter.For England, NI, Scotland and Wales, farming contributes significantly to the rural economy, underpins social cohesion in sparsely populated areas, is the single biggest influence shaping the landscape, and has multiple impacts on sensitive natural habitats and the wider environment.During its Phase 1, AD|ARC has established partnerships between academics and government to used linked de-identified data to create the first UK-wide data collection focussed on agricultural households.In Phase 2, the team is using ADR UK funding to build on the success of Phase 1 to update and expand the data resources in England, Scotland and Wales. Where possible, Phase 2 will update each existing dataset as well as adding data on Bovine TB, spatial data on land use and flooding, and additional economic data, enabling more in-depth analysis based on more recent data, a wider scope, and increased capacity for longitudinal study. The data resources will be built separately in each country but will aim to be sufficiently complementary to allow analysis at the UK level. In parallel, the project will work with Northern Ireland to develop a 2021 CARS to build on the 2011 CARS.ADR England Phase 2 funding would also allow the delivery of a limited Strategic Research work programme, analysing the data to give further insights into agriculture in the UK, including the structure and characteristics of farming households, the Continued Professional Development and education of farmers, and land use.
