Events following SARS-CoV-2 infection in the era of delta - Lay SummaryAim:The aim of this project is to understand changes to the risks of adverse health events following COVID-19 infection since the emergence of the delta variantResearch Questions:Are the differences in rates of adverse events between those with and without COVID-19 larger with the delta variant, compared to previous COVID-19 variants?Do the differences change between those who are vaccinated and those who chose not to be vaccinated?Methods:We will use electronic health records to identify adverse events (including heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis, heart failure, angina, etc.) in people who have been vaccinated, and those who were eligible to receive a vaccination but did not. We will compare the rates of adverse events in these groups before and after COVID-19 infection. The risk of adverse events, before and after COVID-19, will be compared after adjusting for important factors (including sex, age, ethnicity, deprivation, region, smoking status, obesity, etc.)
