Utilizing an assay for lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase developed by Dr. Frost, this protocol will define the activities of these two enzyme species in the post-heparin plasma of normal and hypertriglyceridemic individuals. The relationships (if any) of these activities to the concentrations of serum very-low-density and high-density lipoproteins, and to the personal and family history of manifest atherosclerosis will be examined.
