英文摘要
The thesis will examine how perturbative theories of multiple strings can be obtained from compactification of M-branes in M-theory. The primary example will be the reduction of M2-branes on S1 to fundamental strings. However the thesis may also look at how various non-abelian theories of multiple branes in string theory arise from the reduction of M5-branes.
