The proposed research will involve an investigation of the use of strong donor ligands tostabilise reactive main group monomers, which should enable solid-state structures to bedetermined. Research will also focus on the potential use of carbenes to initiate ringslippage of the cyclopentadienyl ligand from n5 to n3 in 'phane' chemistry and the reversibilityof this reactivity if successful. The work is relevant to the preparation of main group andmetal-containing polymers.
