Dynamics of Relativistic Jets from Active Galactic Nuclei

Recent developments in observational astronomy invite new theoretical and computational studies of relativistic jets with focus on determining their key dynamic components and modelling of individual objects. This PhD project is built along the lines of this general trend. It will involve detailed analysisof observational data, relativistic magnetohydrodynamics, current theoretical models of AGN jets and modern computational methods. Numerical simulations will form the backbone of its explorational part. The student will use the simulations to study the jet interaction with winds from accretion disk wind and interstellar gas. Finding a suitable model for the M87 jet would be the most valuable outcome of the project.
