Production and characterisation of new 2-dimensional materials

This project will focus on methods for the growth of functional 3d layered crystals and the subsequent exfoliation of these materials into individual 2d layers. The exfoliation will be achieved via standard mechanical exfoliation and also by alkali-metal based intercalation followed by dissolution in polar solvents, to form nanosheet solutions. The recovered nanosheets will be investigated with a range of techniques to determine their structure, composition, morphology and electronic properties.
