RF and MW Devices produced by Additive layer manufacturing (ALM). The effective surface resistance is dominated by fine surface details such as texture and the electrical quality of the surface. This project will investigate the optimisation of the ALM process for the production of 3D surfaces for low microwave surface resistance, including the effects of build orientation and build chamber parameters. It will then apply these principles in the production of novel, 3D waveguide-based components which could not otherwise be manufactured. These will be first tested as transmission components and then be used to form simple microwave components such as bandpass filters.
