Polymeric oil additives for future technologies

Engine emission targets are a crucial factor for the future design of engine oils and are increasingly driving the need to develop new additive technology. Improved fuel economy can be facilitated by reducing the friction contribution either of the bulk fluid, by lowering the viscosity of the oil, or by improving the friction of the contacting parts via the inclusion of friction modifiers. Therefore, this PhD project will focus on the development of novel macromolecular structures that can be directly applied as an oil additive. The project is co-funded by EPSRC and Infineum UK Ltd
