This project aims to show a deeper understanding of the ow physics over partiallysubmerged bluff bodies, such as the bulbous bow of a ship. To achieve this aim, a set of objectives are defined:Undertake a literature review of underwater acoustic measurements and the hydrodynamicows over a bulbous bow, to identify noveltyTo numerically simulate the acoustic properties of the Boldrewood towing tank, throughImage source and Modal methods. Enabling a picture of the tanks acoustic properties tobe built up.To experimentally measure the acoustic properties of the Boldrewood towing tank, forsimulation validation.To develop a methodology of removing the e ects of tank walls on underwater acousticmeasurements, using knowledge from the simulations and experimental measurements.Thus creating free eld conditionsTo Develop a methodology of isolating the bulbous bow related drag components of amodel scale ship, by measuring unsteady pressure on the surface of partially submergedbluff bodies. In addition acoustic pressure and wave height measurements will be taken.
