This study investigates how mainstream representations of Chinese styles, objects, and people in the form of fashion and dress have been experienced in the Chinese diaspora in Britain from 1945-present. It considers how fashion and dress has contributed to the identity-formation of British Chinese people, using oral histories to research how clothing has affected the experiences of Chinese migrants and their descendants. It investigates the concept of cross-cultural dressing, analysing Orientalist tendencies, and the use of clothing as a tool of cultural assimilation.
