The overarching aim of this research is to develop a model for testing energy access interventions in refugee camps based on new social and cultural understanding. The research seeks to: 1. Determine refugee energy needs and their prioritisation 2. Establish social and cultural factors influencing energy consumption 3. Estimate energy demand and its profile 4. Model the performance of various energy technologies such as wind and solar 5. Devise an energy deployment model that could enhance livelihoods in refugee camps The research will adopt a people-centric approach to understand beneficiaries' energy priorities and socioeconomic context utilising a framework such as the sustainable livelihood approach (Cherni, 2004 and DFID, 1999). This new data will be incorporated into the development of on an energy access model for refugee camps.
