Prisoner segregation: how can the use of segregation in prisons be effectively reduced?

In many jurisdictions across the world, the practice of segregation in prisons has become a prominent, contentious issue and has received a substantialamount of criticism. Over the past three decades scholars have considered and questioned the use of segregation in prisons and, as far back as theearly 1980s, pleas were being made to find and implement effective alternatives to segregation. These pleas have largely been unanswered.Therefore, my proposed research will seek to describe and understand the current use of segregation, to find valuable, meaningful ways to reducesegregation, and to establish viable alternatives to the practice of segregation.
