Vanadium dioxide is a material known for having strong temperature dependence of resistivity close to room temperature, whilst plasmonic nanostructures can efficiently convert light into heat. This project investigates the integration of plasmonic nanostructures with vanadium dioxide thin film for use in bolometric photodetection. Control of nanostructure geometry allows for wavelength and polarisation sensitivity with respect to incident light. This work opens the path to a broad family of photodetection functionalities for vanadium dioxide-based microbolometers.
