This project will investigate the formation and further reactions of small ring systems.For example maleic anhydride derivatives will be investigated in a variety of [2+2] cycloaddition reactions with a range of alkynes. These cyclobutenes will then be investigated as scaffolds for further elaboration as drug discovery libraries in collaboration with UCB. In a related study amino-cyclopropane derivatives will be investigated as substrates to undergo novel radical cyclisation cascade reactions to generate a range of complex scaffolds as possible drug discovery scaffolds.
