Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is a promising technique for next generation mobile network to enhance the total system data rate over existing orthogonal multiple access schemes. On the other hand, recent studies have found that users are consuming more and more rich digital contents, such as live streaming video, TV episodes and movies, via the mobile network. If multiple users consume the same content and the usage can be predicted, these files can be pre-fetched into a local cache such that users can access the files locally, instead of retrieving the files from the server. In this way lower amount of data will be transported on the delivery of rich content, reducing the network traffic load as well as energy consumption. In this project, NOMA will be explored as a delivery mechanism for wireless cache-enabled network to enhance the system performance. The student will develop new transmission techniques and optimization algorithms in maximizing certain system performance measures, such as total data rate, user fairness, energy efficiency etc. The research work is primarily theoretical varied using computer simulation. It aligns with the following ESPRC research areas: "RF and microwave communications", "ICT networks and distributed systems", and "Digital Signal Processing".
