A Study of the Higgs boson decaying to a pair of bb quarks

ATLAS has recently implemented a new jet algorithm using particle flow which improves the accuracy of charged-hadron measurements while retaining the calorimeter measurements for neutral-particles. Philipp will conduct studies to understand the performance of b-tagging in particle flow jets. He will work on the Monte Carlo based extrapolation of the b-tagging efficiency calibration from the ttbar data sample to the high jet pT range, for this jet category. These corrections will be incorporated in the 2019 precision calibrations (summer 2019) and the expected update (late 2019). The completion of these tasks will lead to his qualification as an ATLAS author.He will use these optimal tools to study the decay Higgs boson to a pair of b quarks with the full data sample collected by the ATLAS experiment in RUN 2 of the LHC. His work will include both resolved and boosted decays of the Higgs boson. He will implement state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to increase the signal to background ratio in the final state containing 0-leptons. His work will lead to the best measurement of this important decay mode of the Higgs boson. He will also study the effects induced by an anomalous Higgs trilinear coupling on the totaland differential rate of VH associated production when the Higgs decays into b-quarks.
