The student's project will be part of the ATLAS SUSY working group. The student will search for evidence ofphysics beyond the standard model (BSM) at ATLAS in electro-weak produced events where SUSY particlesdecay to one of more tau leptons. The student will look at various different signatures: directly producedstaus (which later decay to taus); stau production mediated by Charginos and Neutralinos. The student willfocus in particular in the final states where one tau decays hadronically and one decays leptonically. Thestudent will device optimal strategies for defining signal regions where BSM events are enhanced with respectto backgrounds, and also estimate the backgrounds via definition of appropriate control regions. It isanticipated that the student will spend between 6 and 12 months at CERN in their second year of thestudentship.
