Concrete Jungle: functions of nature' in writing New York City

My project is a review of New York City literature since-1900. It aims to interrogate how literary cities conceptualize more than human nature in relation to human- artefact; if 'species loneliness' is a literary feature and whether a reading sensitive to grammatical animacy might exhibit cities as dynamic and 'natural' extensions of the new human phenotype.Object-Oriented-Ontology, Actor-Network-Theory, theories of 'abjection' and 'new materialism'will provide the framework for reading the implicit ecological dimension of urban-literature: here, my project promises originality. It has the potential to develop a reading which might foment resistance to environmental destruction and to extend the accepted locus of 'nature-writing'
