Re-sourcing Ressourcement: The origin, self-understanding and theological style of twentieth century Catholic renewal

This study provides the first thorough intellectual history of the development of this importantmovement. It will challenge the common narratives of twentieth-century Catholic renewal, both 'conservative' and 'liberal', arguing for a renewed engagement with Ressourcement thinkers' own self-understanding. By showing how Ressourcement was able to draw on earlier dogmatic theology (Gardeil, Scheeben etc) and integrate it into a consistent vision it proposes a 'third way' to do Catholic theology, neither 'rupture' nor 'return'. This contributes to the wider understanding of Catholic thought and practice in the modern world, both ecumenically and academically.
