Entanglement is an important resource for many applications of Quantum technology. One path to being able to generate this resource reliably is through Quantum Dots. In this PhD project I will be exploring this possibility both theoretically and experimentally. Focusing particularly on a new protocol to generate spin-photon entanglement via coherent scattering with a charged Quantum Dot.I will begin by fleshing out our proposed protocol, ideally showing that it generates spin-photon cluster states. This protocol will then be extended to consider effects from an imperfect system. This will include things such as source detuning, external magnetic fields, and dephasing.Once this theory has been established and we can make predictions about the systems behaviour then we will begin implementing this theory in practice. The initial goal will be to do a proof of principle experiment utilizing a weak coherent light source with the end goal of moving to demonstrating entanglement with single photons.Undertaking these activities will develop my skills in important areas such as optical laboratory techniques, low temperature Spectroscopy of Quantum Dots, lab view and Quantum light and matter interaction theory.
