Between 20 and 50% of industrial waste heat is vented to the atmosphere, losing a huge amount of energy that could potentially be reused to provide heat for process or space heating applications. Re-use of this energy will provide significant economic and environmental benefits to the manufacturing facilities. This project aims to investigate and optimise the capture of heat from industrial waste streams using thermochemical storage (TCS) materials and work collaboratively with local teams to scope out the delivery of hear back into the site.The Research Engineer will:- Assess and Quantify the available energies from waste streams at nominated production sites.- Develop TCS materials configured for optimised storage from the identified waste heat streams.- Characterise the TCS materials with respect to charge and discharge performance and cyclic reproducibility.- Characterise the TCS material with respect to overall energy balance / energy capacity.- Investigate methods of re-use of the captured heat.- Quantify the economic and environmental benefits.
