The objective of this project is to explore alternative architectures to the conventional laminate supercapacitors devices currently employed in structural power applications. Fibre-shaped architectures in principle, can have improved rate performance but development is needed to maximise the electrical conductivity and electrochemical activity. This project will focus on fabricating wet-spun SWCNT fibres and assessing their viability as electrodes for electrical energy storage. Particular focus will be paid to the capacitive performance of these fibres, which will be further improved through doping of pseudocapacitive materials. Whole devices will be assembled and the power/energy densities will be compared to that of laminated architectures
