German Communities in Transylvania between the Twelfth and Fifteenth Centuries

My research proposal concerns German migration and settlement in Transylvania between the twelfth and the fifteenthcenturies, particularly in terms of interactions between the Transylvanian Saxon communities and other organizationsacross Transylvania, the kingdom of Hungary, and medieval Latin Christendom. More broadly, I am interested in Germanmigration to Central and Eastern Europe, and political, cultural, and religious connections across medieval LatinChristendom, particularly between Central Europe and Western Europe. Key themes on which I would like to work bothfor this project and in the future are diplomatic exchanges and the flow of religious and cultural influences between thedifferent regions of medieval Latin Christendom. I am also highly interested in the meaning and validity of the phrase'medieval Europe' and the political implications of this phrase, as it is employed by medieval historians.
