The Kobani variety of Kurmanji: Variation in morphosyntax

The Kurdish language includes many dialects that are mutually unintelligible, and which can be classified as separate languages. Kurmanji, a dialect of Kurdish, in itself has many varieties which show their distinctive features. However, the linguistic features of these varieties have never been described. This project aims to describe the morphosyntactic variation in the Kobani variety of Kurmanji in Syria drawing on the description of Standard Kumanji by Bedir-Khan and Lescot (1970). Recorded interviews will be used to collect data from native speakers of this variety who have recently moved to the UK.
