英文摘要
Project description:The GlueX experiment at Jefferson Laboratory in Virginia has the goal of understanding Gluonic excitations, and shedding light on the nature of quark confinement and the strong force. Brief description of the context of the research including potential impact:The GlueX experiment at Jefferson Laboratory in Virginia has the goal of understanding Gluonic excitations, and shedding light on the nature of quark confinement and the strong force. The impact is widespread, since the ultimate aim is to have a full understanding of the nature of the strong interaction at the energy scale of the hadrons (protons and neutrons) the make up the matter around us. Aims and objectivesParticipate in the GlueX experiment at Jefferson Laboratory in Virginia. Analyse data to measure photon asymmetriesAnalyse data to search for exotic statesCalibrate data on linearly polarised photon beam for the collaboration. Present regular updates at local group meetings and collaboration meetings.Attend HUGS summer school in Virginia.Novelty of the research methodologyThe GlueX experiment is the only experiment in the world using a linearly polarised photon beam to search for QCD exotics. Additionally, the detector has a unique. hermetic design to allow the detection of multi-particle finale states with both neutral and charged particles. Alignment to STFC's strategies and research areasAs an experiment at the forefront of hadron physics research, GlueX is perfectly aligned with STFCs strategy and aims. Its potential applications and benefitsThe main benefit will be an improved understanding of the nature of quark confinement and the strong force. There are several associated benefits in areas related to software, distributed computing, detector development and PhD training.Any companies or collaborators involvedThe GlueX experiment is an international experiment with 120 members.
