The proposed research aims to develop a novel transient wear analysis tool with particular focus on cylindrical gear pairs. The model will be developed for commonly used materials for this type of gear pairs. The developed methodology will enable the estimation of wear at the design process to maintain a desired level of durability in the final product. The tool will be capable of integration with tribo-dynamic tools to deliver an estimation of NVH refinement and efficiency. The developed model and knowledge will have a generic form, being able to be implemented in other fields of study with similar underlying physics. They include bearings, piston-ring pack, valvetrain, artificial joints and seals.
