Development of novel analytical approaches to make robust analyses more available

I have recently changed my primary research project to a collaborative project with the Department of Nutritional Sciences (Dr Balazs Bajka) developing analytical methods for detecting amino acids and fatty acids in biological samples in readily deployable formats.Proposed question - Usually, researchers take blood samples for analysis. This is costly and inconvenient and is not readily available to the whole population. To overcome these drawbacks, we ask and aim to investigate if amino acids and fatty acids can be detected and quantified from samples of dried blood spots, to enable larger cheaper nutritional studies.Methodology - this would start by learning and implementing standard protocols to develop a reference data set for comparison and developing novel analytical methods for the identification and detection and quantification of amino acids and fatty acids in dried blood spot samples. Another branch of the project is to develop methods to analyse products from in vitro digestion experiments which are done by nutritionists to assess nutrient bioavailiability.
