'Perovskite-inspired' materials have seen a significant rise in interest in recent years, with the hope they will deliver stable non-toxic thin-film solar cells that can match the efficiency of silicon based devices. In order to determine if a new material will achieve high efficiencies in devices, computational and experimental techniques can be used to study the electronic and optical properties of candidate materials. This will hopefully allow us to discover new and affordable energy materials.
