This proposal submits that empirical research into, and analysis of, the specific form and operation of due process safeguards for removal proceedings the criminal courts is necessary to bridge the conceptual gap between the outcomes produced by this system and the causal mechanisms of legalprocedure that contribute to them. My proposed research would also look to undertake a comparative approach to the data gathered in respect of both criminal court and immigration tribunal proceedings.
