(Re)Creating History: Exploring embodied performances through immersive technologies

This project will use state-of-the-art immersive technology to allow the capture, presentation and exploration of highly demanding physical performances, such as dance, theatre and athletic performances. Although the system will be useful for capturing and recreating many types of performances, our chosen domain is women's boxing, which not only has a neglected history of hundreds of years, but also is a uniquely challenging domain for performance capture, due to issues such as speed, reliability and data fidelity. The partner organization, the PROTO Emerging Technologies Centre in Gateshead, will provide the specialized equipment necessary for the project.
