Biomanufacturing plays a key role in the synthesis of major products in variousindustries e.g. pharmaceuticals, biofuels, agrochemicals etc. The scale up anddownstream processing of these production lines is vital to the commercialmanufacture of such products. Searching for holistic solutions to the problemsencountered in the scale up and downstream processing of these products requiresthe consideration of numerous factors e.g. cost, sustainability, environmentalconsequence, all of which require research and development of new technologies anddevices. As opposed to focussing on the raw biological phenomena, the researchproposed will focus upon transforming the early stages of synthetic biology into fullydeveloped industrial processes which manufacture meaningful products in acompetitive and sustainable manner.
