Seasonal variations in subglacial traction: Case study of Hofsjokull ice cap

This project will combine fine-resolution, time-dependent surface velocity measurements of the Hofsjokull ice cap in Iceland with simplified modelling of ice flow over a visco-plastic till to understand the seasonal variations exhibited in surface ice velocity. Emphasis will be placed on using simplified models of subglacial hydrology to understand the variability of till properties and hence the basal traction in response to recorded hydrological forcing. In addition, an understanding of the mobilised till will be used to evaluate the long-term erosion of glacial landforms.
