The main aim of this project is to develop a nanomedicine-based approach for delivery of therapeutics agents to regional lymph nodes following rectal administration. Potential therapeutic applications of the suggested approach include immune-oncology and post-exposure prophylaxis of HIV CDT themes Predictive Pharmaceutical Sciences, Advanced Product Design and Complex Product Characterisation Advanced Product Design - The project will provide knowledge on nanoparticles design parameters required to achieve transport to lymph nodes from the rectal site of administration. Advanced nano-scale drug delivery systems for rectal administration will be developed, and fabricated. Surface functionalization for active targeting will be also considered and implemented, if necessary. Complex Product Characterisation - We will assess the nano-formulations in regards to the size distribution, z-potential, drug loading, in vitro uptake/activity/toxicity and in vivo pharmacokinetics and biodistribution. EPSRC remit This project fully aligns with EPSRC remit of Transformative Healthcare Technologies
