ARIADNE and dual phase optical readout for future neutrino liquid argon detectors

The ERC ARIADNE project has developed and demonstrated a gamechanging optical readout solution to two-phase LAr detectors thatoffers a highly cost effective option for the future colossal neutrinoliquid argon detectors. A further optimisation and scale up of theoptical readout will take place at the CERN neutrino platform using a5mx5mx1m cryogenic vessel. The student will join the ARIADNEprogram and will participate in the construction and running of thelarge-scale liquid argon experiment at CERN. The student will gain adetailed understanding of pressurized liquid noble gas systems andoperate and calibrate the cryogenic liquid argon detector. Thestudent will optimise further the optical readout technology, performliquid argon event reconstruction studies and analysis of datacollected at CERN. For this PhD position it is expected that a year willbe spent at CERN.
