This project will identify and investigate the importance of special effects within science-fiction and horror films, specifically body horror films, on the critical reception of these films. It will also chart the development of special effects over several key periods and how these special effects have been marketed to prospective audiences, in order to gauge how these have influenced a film's reception and to what extent the reception has in turn had an effect on the development of special effects within these films.
