In the Central Laser Facility two major upgrading projects are recently started:VOPPEL: an innovative Petawatt laser beamline fully based on Optical Parametric Chirped Pulse Amplification (OPCPA); EPAC: a 10Hz Petawatt laser facility based on Ti:Sapphire amplification.Both lasers are based on the Chirped Pulse Amplification and on short laser pulses (<30fs) and large bandwidth (>100nm) and they are pushing the limit of the laser technology in the high power laser field.The proposed CDT thesis will be focus on four key parts in those projects:the short pulse laser diagnostics after the final compressor; the laser front end; the large aperture OPCPA stages; the chirped pulse amplification scheme and pulse recompression.All those elements are important for the success of the projects, particularly to guarantee the laser specification and stability. To achieve the objectives will require to study the state art of the short pulse laser technology and develop new ways to address the challenges imposed by the projects.
