Teesdale and High Force: connected landscapes through Prehistory

This research will establish new chronological and contextual frameworks for prehistoric life in the NorthPennines with a focus on the role of the Tees and its major waterfalls in the evolution of prehistoriclandscapes of settlement, mobility and communication. The project will combine new and establishedlandscape archaeology techniques to provide new data on landscape development in upper Teesdale duringprehistory, including the impacts of climate and ecological change, and human land-use. It will contribute toheritage and landscape management priorities outlined in the North East Regional Research Framework forthe Historic Environment, and by Durham County Council.
