This in an ethnographic study examining the the role fatherhood, breadwinning and crime in Mexico. The objectives of the research stud are to understand:1) the mandates of masculinity as observed inside a penitentiary centre (with a focus on notions of respect,breadwinning, and fatherhood) and their relation to inmates' efforts toward reintegration;2) the ongoing negotiations of the mandates of masculinity, both inside and outside of prison, and theirimplications in preventing violence;3) the role of informal economy in the reintegration process.
