In the last year, levitated optomechanics set-ups have succeeded in cooling silica noospheres to within a fraction of a Quantum above the zero point motion. However, this has been done along a single degree of freedom and for future interferometry and displacement sensing it is valuable to investigate quantum cooling in two and three dimensions. In addition, a major goal for the community is to generate non-classical states that can be exploited for fundamental applications and quantum technologies. The projectwill involve a mixture of mathematical analysis, numerical simulation and close contact with experimental collaborators.
