How does the victimhood identity of right-wing populist parties in France, Germany, and Austria contribute to the rise in anti-Semitic hate crime?

This interdisciplinary project will use approaches from sociology, history, linguistics, and political science fora comparative analysis of the victimhood identity and anti-establishment discourse of three right-wingpopulist parties: Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ), Rassemblement National (RN) in France, and Alternativefur Deutschland (AfD) in Germany. I will examine how Holocaust denial and the parties' resistance to officialmemory culture validates anti-Semitism among far-right extremists, and connect these findings toincreasing anti-Semitic hate crime in all three countries. The scope will be from the 2000 Stockholm Forumto the present, noting the formation of AfD in 2013.
