Arabic and Decolonial Transmission in the Ecological Humanities: Knowledge Production in Post-Ottoman Beirut

This doctoral research project aims to examine environmental and cultural historiography in post-Ottoman Beirut. It also seeks to analyze the refractions therein of Arabic eco-literaryheritages that pre-date the Enlightenment vis-à-vis the ascendance of the "Environmental Humanities." Departing from an investigation of public and private university archives fromthe mid-twentieth century, wherein I will focus on the faculties of pedagogy, humanities, and agriculture, the project intends to illuminate a history of transmission of and changes incivilizational ecology in the wake of imperial rupture.
