The Royal Photographic Society (RPS) and the dissemination of photographic knowledge and practices, 1853-1929The present proposal addresses the announced doctoral project on the history of the RPS by focusing on the RPS's educational role in photography and its broad reach through its launch of a distance learning program in 1891. It relates to my previous research on early professional photographers around the University of St Andrews. This PhD would be an exciting opportunity to develop my research on photographic innovation, knowledge exchange, and photographic autonomy in the nineteenth century and to be part of a team at Birkbeck and the V&A with multiple opportunities to share this story with the public.
