Colonialism during the 15th-17th centuries in Argentina and Chile will be investigated through a holistic study of ceramics. The ceramics will be used to characterise technological transfer between Indigenous and colonial peoples during Spanish occupation, and identify the movement of ceramics and people across South America. Analytical insights into technological practice and pottery provenance at four key sites will inform a material perspective on the expansion of the Spanish Empire and the resulting complex Spanish-Indigenous cultural relations.
