The health and wellbeing of garment workers in Ahmedabad, India: from ethnographic research to participatory action

This is a collaborative research project to be conducted in partnership withPraxis, India whose letter of support accompanies the nomination form. Itwill involve a combination of ethnographic and participatory researchmethodologies to explore garment workers experience of health andwellbeing in the context of their work environments, both factory and homeworking. Ethnographic research will inform the participatory action researchPraxis have planned in Ahmedabad, North India. It will take into account,and take advantage of my status as East African Gujarati and the specialopportunities this offers in terms of language and heritage. Throughcollaboration, and the guidance of Praxis, I will be able to develop moreparticipatory research methodologies with around twenty garment workersand their families.
