Universities, Climate Resilience, and Future-Worlding: An Ethnographic Exploration of Knowledge Networks in the Pacific and Caribbean Region

Universities can be at the forefront of the internationalcollaborative effort necessary to address climate changeissues. In this study, I aim to explore climate knowledgenetworks within Pacific universities and their wider informationcommunities. I will investigate situated knowledges on climaterisk and food resilience within urban coastal communities andthe flows of knowledge between universities and community basedorganisations. Probing sites of creative tension anddisjuncture in the knowledges produced and disseminated byuniversities and the lived, vernacular knowledge of climate inthese communities will provide a more nuanced view of howclimate knowledges are formed and given authority. Throughhighlighting the ways in which knowledge networks areentangled in the pre-established institutional and social milieu,I will track pathways attempting an equitable virtual knowledgenetwork across Pacific and Caribbean universities. Thisresearch will support the Association of CommonwealthUniversities Climate Resilience Network promotingendogenous modes of sustainable development in small islanddeveloping states (SIDS).
