Year 1: General skills training and lab rotationsYears 2 to 4: The primary aim of this project is to synthesise a broad range of 3-alkyl 3-amino oxetanes by a carbonyl CAA reaction. This two-step method would proceed by a condensation between oxetan-3-one and a selected amine to give an oxetanyl imine, followed by an imine alkylation step with a selected alkyl iodide to yield the corresponding 3-alkyl 3-amino oxetane products. This proposed route to 3-alkyl 3-amino oxetanes by a CAA reaction would be superior to prior routes due to the range of amines and alkyl groups which could be incorporated into the products.
